Stable Isotope Laboratory
We oversee the operation of the Stable Isotope Ecology Laboratory in the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences and College of the Coast and Environment at LSU. The facility has three continuous-flow isotope-ratio mass spectrometers (IRMS; Thermo Scientific) dedicated to both bulk and compound-specific organic samples. Primary instrumentation includes one Delta Plus XP Isotope ratio mass spectrometer (IRMS) and Delta V Advantage IRMS with elemental analyzers (Costech ECS 4010 and Thermo Scientific Flash EA) for bulk δ13C, δ15N, and δ34S measurements. In addition, a second Delta V Advantage IRMS with GC IsoLink II and Trace GC 1310 for compound-specific measurement of δ13C and δ15N in amino acids.
Here is a list of contract services and pricing we offer to LSU and outside clients through the WBAS Analytical Service Lab.
If you are interested in submitting samples for analysis please contact Mike Polito (mpolito@lsu.edu) and Angela Stahl (astahl@lsu.edu).
The Polito Lab strives to create an inclusive, respectful, intellectually challenging climate that embraces individual difference in race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, age, spirituality, socioeconomic status, disability, family status, experiences, opinions and ideas.
